When fitting any type of Butt or Backflap Hinge having two, three or five knuckles, the leaf with the pin or the greater number of knuckles should always be fitted to the frame and not to the actual door. When hinges are fitted they must immediately be oiled with a light machine oil and this lubrication must be repeated at least every 6 months. When environmental conditions are abnormal, ie. high temperature, low humidity or both, or when the door is subjected to exceptionally heavy usage, lubrication must be increased to at least once every 3 months to ensure smooth operation and to avoid excessive wear. With No.466 Rising Butts, No.467 Falling Butts and No.457 Lift-Off Butt Hinges grease must be used and not oil. We recommend Lithium 3 Grease or equivalent and it must be applied regularly every 3 months to both the pin and the total area of contact between each leaf. When fitting hinges with screws the correct size screw must always be used. The practice of partly hammering the screw intoposition must not be used as this will cause internal delamination, which could seriously affect the preformance of the doors particularly when exposed to fire. To avoid excessive wear, all hinges should be fitted in precise alignment, failure to correctly align will cause excessive wear to occur resulting in ultimate failure of the installation. Finishes
